Étricourt-Manancourt (Picard: Étricourt Mona Court) is a French municipality with 531 inhabitants (at January 1, 2017) in the department of Somme in the region of Hauts-de-France in northern France. The municipality belongs to the canton of Péronne .

geography

The community with the two districts Étricourt and Manancourt (south) is about ten kilometers east of Combles on the west bank of the Canal du Nord and on the departmental roads D72 and D43. In the north, the municipality is cut through by the D172 (part of the system of the Chaussée Brunehaut ). The planned Seine-Nord Europe Canal is to run through the municipality as a large shipping route. The 4,350 m long Souterrain de Ruyaulcourt of the Canal du Nord begins in Étricourt-Manancourt .

history

In the course of the planned large shipping route, extensive exploratory excavations took place, during which Paleolithic finds came to light. A Celtic farm and a Celtic necropolis were also discovered.

During the First World War , the community was on the front line several times. In the course of Operation Michael , which was preparing the Second Battle of the Marne , the German troops crossed the Canal du Nord near Étricourt on March 24, 1918. At the time of the armistice, the place was almost completely destroyed. The reconstruction took a long time. The community received the Croix de guerre 1914-1918 as an award .

During the Second World War, the German put Luftwaffe west Manancourts, on the road to Sailly-Saillisel (now D 184 ) after the start of the Allied invasion of Normandy an airfield at which they from mid-June to early July 1944 as a place of use of Bf 109G hunters. At the beginning it was used by the 1st group of Jagdgeschwader 5 and housed the 2nd group of Jagdgeschwader 11 for a week over the change of month .
