The Frize Church after the Battle of the Somme

Frize (Picard: Frisse) is a northern French municipality with 183 inhabitants (at January 1, 2017) in the department of Somme in the region of Hauts-de-France . The municipality belongs to the canton of Albert and is part of the Communauté de communes du Pays du Coquelicot .

geography

The municipality on the left bank of the meandering here and ponds (de Marais Frize) extended Somme that here the flat, the Canal de la Somme intersected Umlaufberg forms Fond de l'Ile, approximately nine kilometers to the east of Bray-sur-Somme . It extends south to the Départementsstraße D1. The hamlet of La Grenouillère belongs to Frize. Stone was broken along the steep bank.

history

Frize was on the front line in World War I and was badly damaged. Heavy fighting took place, especially in the Montagne de Frize (today biotope / species protection area of the International Union for Conservation of Nature and Natural Resources - Category IV).

The community received the Croix de guerre 1914-1918 as an award .
