Marieux ( Picard : Mariu) is a northern French municipality with 122 inhabitants (at January 1, 2017) in the department of Somme in the region of Hauts-de-France . The municipality belongs to the canton of Albert and is part of the Communauté de communes du Pays du Coquelicot .

Marieux is located on the D11 departmental road from Amiens to Arras , which follows the Roman road and at the same time forms the western municipal boundary, and forms a single settlement with Montplaisir (part of the municipality of Sarton in the Pas-de-Calais department ) to the west of this road . The distance to Acheux-en-Amiénois is eight kilometers.

history

Marieux Castle served as the headquarters of a British Army Corps during the First World War . On October 25, 1915, King George V and the French President Raymond Poincaré met here.
