Méaulte ( Picard : Mieute) is a northern French municipality with 1254 inhabitants (at January 1, 2017) in the department of Somme in the region of Hauts-de-France . The municipality belongs to the canton of Albert and is part of the Communauté de communes du Pays du Coquelicot .
geography
Méaulte is located immediately southeast of Albert . The Albert-Picardie airport located partially on the territory of the municipality. The district of La Neuville and the former brickworks La Croix Comtesse belong to the municipality .
history
The area of the municipality was already populated in prehistoric times.
In 1736 the Duke of Penthièvre was Lord of Méaulte.
The community was completely destroyed in the First World War and rebuilt after the war. She received the Croix de guerre 1914–1918 as an award .
In 1924, Henry Potez (1891–1981), originally from Méaulte, founded the aircraft factory.
economy
The community is shaped by the aviation industry. Aerolia emerged as a supplier to Airbus Industries and Bombardier from Aéroplanes Henry Potez , which was nationalized in 1936 .
