Splietau is a district of the city of Dannenberg (Elbe) in the joint municipality of Elbtalaue in the Lüchow-Dannenberg district in Lower Saxony .

The village is 1.5 km east of the edge of the core town of Dannenberg on the L 256 state road . In terms of nature, it is located on the Lüchower Niederterrasse at about 15 m above sea level. Some areas of the district are covered by drifting sands (wooded inland dunes); otherwise, partly arable valley sands predominate. In 2004 the place had 205 inhabitants.

history

Before the settlement was almost completely destroyed by fire in the spring of 1870, Splietau was a densely built-up village . In the devastating fire, 83 buildings on 22 farms burned down. The reconstruction took place with a spacious, regular road network. The main houses of the large courtyards were - as was typical back then - mostly built as four-column hall houses in half-timbered construction. Several of them have survived to this day, some of which have changed little. The tree population of old oaks is also characteristic of the site. To the south of the place runs a dike that served as a rear flood protection before the Jeetzel lowlands were redesigned in terms of water and dyke construction in the middle of the 20th century. In 1888, for example, further low-lying areas in Lüchow-Dannenberg and the entire village of Splietau were flooded. According to a level marking at the former Witte inn, the water there stood around one meter above the floor on March 22, 1888.

On July 1, 1972, Splietau was incorporated into the city of Dannenberg (Elbe).
