Penkefitz is a Lower Saxon village in the Hanoverian Wendland , which has been part of the city of Dannenberg (Elbe) since the municipal reform that came into force on July 1, 1972 . The Wurtendorf, characterized by half - timbered houses , is located in the middle of the Elbhöhen-Wendland nature park on a dead arm of the Elbe , the so-called Tauben Elbe . Until 1989 Penkefitz was right on the inner-German border .
The Strachauer Rad settlement, which is located directly on the Elbe dike and consists of several farms, belongs to Penkefitz . The two extensive courtyards were particularly hard hit by the Elbe floods in 2002 and 2006 .
Penkefitz became better known through the ARD children's and youth series Penkefitz No. 5 (1982), which takes place in a children's home in Penkefitz.
