history

It is a two-line village whose appearance was completely reorganized after a devastating fire on June 28, 1834, after 55 buildings and almost the entire village at that time had burned down. The old, roughly west-east running village street was significantly lengthened on both sides and served as the main settlement axis for almost all of the courtyards built in October 1834. These were aligned on strictly at right angles to the street facing the street and built at regular intervals between each other. The few houses that were spared from the fire were included in this new plan. The oldest of these is today's house number 53 - a two-post construction from 1723 that survived all known fires in the village. It also marks the western border of the old village (today it is in the middle of the village). The hall houses of the reconstruction are both two-column and four-column half-timbered constructions. Old oak trees also characterize the townscape along the village road, especially in the older part of the settlement.

Breese in the march is considered an almost completely preserved example of a complete re-planning of a village in the early 19th century.

On July 1, 1972, Breese was incorporated into the march in the city of Dannenberg (Elbe).
