The German Storchenstrasse is an approximately 450 km long holiday route in northern Germany . It proves the White Stork reverence , the south-east of Hamburg as a character bird in the Elbe Valley is home. It runs on both sides of the Elbe in an area that includes parts of the federal states of Schleswig-Holstein , Lower Saxony , Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania , Brandenburg and Saxony-Anhalt .

The German Stork Route, which was opened in 2008 in the region with the most storks in Germany, is clearly and uniformly marked with its logo along the way . Local signs bring the storks closer to people. On all nests on the route nest tables provide information on the breeding success of recent years. At selected locations, there are information boards on topics such as ringing of storks, food and bird migration , but also about storks in songs and myths .

The Storchenstrasse connects the Elbe-Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania River Landscape Biosphere Reserve , the Lower Saxon Elbe Valley Biosphere Reserve , the Elbhöhen-Wendland Nature Park and the Middle Elbe Biosphere Reserve .
