The Biosphere Reserve Riverine Landscape Elbe-Mecklenburg-Vorpommern is part of the transnational UNESCO - Biosphere Reserve River Landscape Elbe .

It extends in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania on the right bank of the Elbe between the state border with Brandenburg at Dömitz (river kilometers 502-511), along the state border with Lower Saxony at Amt Neuhaus and on to the state border with Schleswig-Holstein near Lauenburg (river kilometers 555-565). Due to the isolated inner German border location, a floodplain landscape, which is unique in Central Europe, has largely been preserved here in a natural way. A network was formed to further preserve the near-natural river landscape compared to other large German rivers. The five federal states of Brandenburg, Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania, Lower Saxony, Saxony-Anhalt and Schleswig-Holstein came together to effectively protect the Elbe valley with its wide floodplains along over 400 kilometers of river. It was declared a transnational biosphere reserve in 1997. The area of the UNESCO biosphere reserve river landscape Elbe-Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania is 461 km².

The high plateaus of the Saale period with their steep slopes on the banks of the Elbe near Boizenburg (Vier) and Rüterberg (Dömitz) are impressive . There, observation towers offer a wide panoramic view of the Elbe.
