Centerim is a free instant messaging - client for Unix-like operating systems .
overview
The software emerged as a spin-off from the client Centericq , whose development was discontinued in 2005. During the development of Version 5 of CenterIM, however , the source code was almost completely rewritten. Like its predecessor, CenterIM lacks a graphical user interface , so that it is only operated via the console , which is also possible via Secure Shell via a network connection.
Once started in a command prompt , CenterIM uses ncurses to break it down into different sections for the contact list, the chat area and the logging of events. The user navigates using the arrow keys on the keyboard or calls up certain menus with other specified keys.
