Center for the Study of Islam and Democracy
The Center for the Study of Islam and Democracy ( CSID ; "Center for the Study of Islam and Democracy") was founded in 1998 and is based in Washington, DC. Its founder and president is Radwan Masmoudi (born 1963 in Tunisia ) , a figure of Islam in the United States .
According to Globalmbwatch , the center appears to have been founded in a cooperation between the US Muslim Brotherhood , the US State Department and the academic John Esposito from Georgetown University . Esposito, Professor of International Affairs and Islamic Studies at Georgetown University in Washington, DC , was a State Department analyst serving on the US State Department during the 1990s. At the ACMCU, for example, he initiated The Muslim 500 , whose editors also include Suleiman Abdallah Schleifer ( American University of Cairo ) and the Turkish presidential advisor and SETA founder Ibrahim Kalin .
Former CSID board members included Jamal Barzinji and Taha al-Alwani , who are associated with the International Institute of Islamic Thought (IIIT) and both high-ranking figures in the US Muslim Brotherhood .
