Central is a city in Pickens County in the American state of South Carolina .
history
The city owes its existence to the railway boom that began in 1873. Its name refers to its location halfway between Atlanta and Charlotte . In 1973 the railway line between the two cities was completed, and the railway operator, the Southern Railway , set up a depot with a small workshop and gas station in Central as the approximate center of the connection. This railway depot initially attracted more residents and businesses. After the Southern Railway moved its headquarters from Central in 1897, many stores closed.
In the 20th century, a mill and Methodist flourished. In the 21st century, the population grew due to student housing, e.g. B. for Clemson University .
