Cezary Michalski

Cezary Ryszard Michalski (* 1963 in Toruń ) is a Polish Slavic philologist , essayist , prose writer and publicist , member of the Stowarzyszenie Pisarzy Polskich (Association of Polish Writers).

Michalski studied Polish Studies at the Jagiellonian University in Cracow , then Slavic Studies in Paris. At that time he was also the secretary of Józef Czapski . Michalski was Manuela Gretkowska's husband at the time .

After his return to Poland he edited the magazines “Brulion” and “Debata”, was also an employee of the strictly Catholic magazines Fronda and “Tygodnik Literacki”, as well as the weekly “Tygodnik Solidarność”. At that time he was assigned to the political grouping of the "Pampers" - young conservative publicists.

During the term of office of Akcja Wyborcza Solidarność (Electoral Action Solidarność) from 1997 to 2001, he held the post of secretary of the Council for Publishing Initiatives and Cultural Promotion.

He also appeared on the state-owned TV channel TVP Kultura in the program "Lepsze książki" (Better Books).

From 2006 to 2008 he was deputy editor-in-chief of the daily newspaper " Dziennik " and remained an employee of this newspaper until 2009. In the following years he radically changed his political views and joined the circle of free-thinking, non-communist left journalists around Krytyka Polityczna . He also wrote the foreword to the Polish translation of Gilles Kepel's work : La revanche de Dieu: chrétiens, juifs et musulmans à la reconquête du monde.

Michalski is a member of the Supervisory Board of the Immanuel Kant Foundation in Warsaw.
