Chachoengsao ( Thai ฉะเชิงเทรา , pronunciation: [t͡ɕʰàʔt͡ɕʰɤːŋsaw] ) is the capital of Chachoengsao Province . The province of Chachoengsao is located in the eastern region of central Thailand , east of the capital Bangkok . Chachoengsao is also the capital of the district ( Amphoe ) Mueang Chachoengsao .
The city's official name is Chachoengsao , while the locals call their city Paet Rio ( แปดริ้ว - "eight stripes").
geography
Chachoengsao is located on the Mae Nam Bang Pakong ( Bang Pakong River ), which flows 24 kilometers downstream into the Gulf of Thailand . The city is about 100 kilometers east of Bangkok.
The main water resources of the county are the Mae Nam Bang Pakong and the Nakhon Nueang Khet Canal ( Khlong ) .
Economy and Transport
Rice cultivation is the most important source of income in the surrounding area, but also the cultivation of sugar beet , soy and grain and the rearing of shrimps and crabs. Increasingly, however, industry is settling in, partly outsourced from nearby Bangkok. Ekarat and Bangkok Solar have photovoltaic modules manufactured here.
Chachoengsao has a train station on the East Railway from Bangkok Hua Lamphong to Aranyaprathet .
history
The city was founded under King Chakkraphat in 1549. Recruits for army service were trained here at that time.
Attractions
- Wat Sothon Wararam Woravihan - Buddhist temple complex ( Wat ) on the west bank of the Mae Nam Bang Pakong, about 2 km south of the city center. It dates from the Ayutthaya period and houses a very revered gold-plated Buddha statue in meditation pose , which is called Luang Po Sothon . It measures about 1.65 meters from knee to knee and is about 1.98 meters high. The facility has been carefully restored since 1999. The 84 m high white ubosot , which is visible from afar, is remarkable .
