Chad Randall Barrett (born April 30, 1985 in San Diego ) is a former American football player who was mostly used as a striker . He was most recently under contract with Real Salt Lake .
Career
Youth and amateur football
Barrett grew up in San Diego. He played two years for the UCLA college team , the UCLA Bruins . Before his third year of college, he decided to drop out and become a professional footballer. Shortly thereafter, he signed a Generation Adidas contract with Major League Soccer .
Club career
Barret was on 14 January 2005 as the third overall pick in the first round of the MLS Super Draft 2005 vo Chicago Fire chosen, where he was pretty fast achievers. In his three seasons with Chicago, he scored the most goals for his team twice and finished second in these statistics. He won his first title with Chicago in 2006 when the team won the Lamar Hunt US Open Cup .
On July 25, 2008 he moved for an undisclosed fee, the first-round pick at the MLS SuperDraft 2009 and Brian McBride , whose transfer rights were owned by Toronto , to Toronto FC .
On January 13, 2011, he moved to Los Angeles Galaxy . For this team he scored his 50th MLS goal on October 2, 2011, which placed him in the ranking of the 50 most successful MLS goal scorers .
On July 30, 2012 Barrett was loaned to Vålerenga Oslo in Norway . There, however, he could not convince and his contract with LA Galaxy was not extended. In the 2012 MLS Re-Entry Draft , he was elected fourth by New England Revolution , with whom he signed a contract a short time later.
After just one season, his contract was not renewed and Barrett was elected in the MLS Re-Entry Draft 2013 by Seattle Sounders FC . For the Sounders, he scored 1-0 against Sporting Kansas City in stoppage time in the first game of the season in 2014 .
At the beginning of the 2016 season, Barrett moved to the San José Earthquakes , in 2017 he joined Real Salt Lake . There he only made three league appearances after a serious knee injury and so Barrett ended his active career in September 2018 after a total of 278 appearances in Major League Soccer and 58 goals scored.

Barrett ran for several youth teams in the United States until 2003, when he played his only game for the US senior team.
