Chaim Chissin (1882)

Chaim Hisin (also: Chaim Chissin or Hissin ; born January 3, 1865 in Mir , Belarus ; † September 26, 1932 ) was a doctor and BILU pioneer.

After the pogroms of 1881, he joined the BILU movement , previously a loyal Russian , but then hostile to his "compatriots", and in July 1882 reached Eretz Israel with the first pioneer group.

He worked with the other members of BILU in Mikveh Israel , Rishon LeZion and Gedera . Since these settlements offered no economic livelihood, he hired himself as a coachman and transported various passengers between Jerusalem and Jaffa .

In 1887 he turned his back on Palestine and stayed abroad for almost twenty years, studying pharmacy in Russia and, from 1898, medicine at the University of Bern . In Europe he was still Zionist and published about the "new Jewish life in Eretz Israel".

He took part in the V. and VI. Zionist Congress and then returned to Palestine in 1905, then lived in Jaffa, worked as a doctor and dealt with colonization issues as a representative of the Odessa Committee , was active in the workers 'movement and helped found various workers' settlements. He was also one of the founders of Ahuzat Bajit, the core of what would later become Tel Aviv .

1925 "From the Diary of Bilu member" was published by him in which he his experiences and experiences from the life of the Yishuv reproduced.
