Chaim Corfu

Chaim Corfu ( Hebrew חיים קורפו; * January 6, 1921 in Jerusalem , League of Nations mandate for Palestine ; † February 23, 2015 ) was an Israeli politician and former minister.

Life

He studied at religious schools and yeshivot and attended seminars for religious teachers. In 1937 he was with the terrorist underground organization Irgun and a member of the "Irgun command" in Jerusalem. During that time he played as a striker for Beitar Jerusalem . He used his apprenticeship as electrician to letter bombs to build, exploding boxes of chocolates with candy and exploding shells. After being arrested by the British, he used his skills as an electrician to escape.

After the establishment of the State of Israel, he studied law at the Hebrew University of Jerusalem and became a lawyer.

From 1969 to 1992 he was a member of the Knesset from the 7th to the 12th legislative period. From 1969 to 1974 he was a Knesset member of the Gahal , from 1974 to 1992 he was a Knesset member of the Likud , from 1981 to 1988 he was the Israeli transport minister .
