history
The name of Chamadja goes back to the ancient settlement of Tel Chamadja (תל חמדיה). The ancient settlement existed around 5400 BC. And was located on the banks of the ancient Lake Lisan (ימת הלשון also אגם הלשון or ימת הירדן), a precursor lake that included the Dead Sea and the Sea of Galilee . Tel Chamadja is now an archaeological site, which was first discovered in 1958 by N. Tzori in Kibbutz Chamadja. Further excavations were carried out in 1964 by Jacob Kaplan. Gal Newo (גל נבו), an Israeli dolphin and lagoon swimmer , was born in Kibbutz Chamadja.
