The border between the two communities runs along the Ova da Suvretta stream ( Lej da Champfèr , the northern part of the Lej da Silvaplauna . The two tiny lakes Lej Marsch and Lej Nair lie a little east of Champfèr . The village of Champfèr itself is characterized by its compactness, while Suvretta, located slightly to the northeast, consists largely of holiday apartments and hotels and is very sprawled.

Champfèr was not confirmed as a politically independent village in 1883 with only one no vote at the municipal assembly.
Population and infrastructure
The inhabitants are predominantly bilingual and speak both the Upper Engadin language and German . The majority are of the Reformed denomination. Ecclesiastical forms Champfèr with Silvaplana and Sils im Engadin / Segl a community . The reformed village church of St. Rocchus is a listed building. The traditional Talvo restaurant is located in Champfèr .
The previously independent primary school was given up in 2009 due to declining student numbers and merged with the Silvaplana school.
Champfèr is connected to St. Moritz , Samedan , Pontresina and Chiavenna via the bus and post bus network, all of which can be reached without having to change trains. Champfèr has two bus stops in the center of the village.
