Chanaton goes back to the biblical city-state, which in the Amarna letters from 1350 to 1335 BC. Is described as Chinnatuna or Chinnatuni / Chinnatunu. The place described in the Amarna correspondence is said to be the old settlement of Tel Channaton (תל חַנָּתוֹן). The ancient settlement is also mentioned in the book of Joshua (19:14).
