Change your position -

Change Your Position is the second studio album by the English classic rock / blues rock band Tax the Heat . The album was released on March 9, 2018 via Nuclear Blast .

Emergence

The band wrote the new songs while touring since the release of their debut album Fed to the Lions in April 2016. Several demos were recorded, which they sent to producer Evansson at regular intervals . The band was influenced by the music and bands of the sixties , but also by newer music. The work on the new album was influenced by the deaths of David Bowie and Prince .

The album was recorded again in the Chairworks studio in Castleford ( Yorkshire ). A few more recordings were made in Evansson's private studio in Wiltshire . The musicians insisted on playing the songs live in a room. According to singer Alex Veale, the band wanted to "capture the energy". Rock music should "not only be purely methodical, but also contain feeling". For the songs Money in the Bank and the theme song Change Your position were music videos rotated.

The album title refers to the turbulent current situation in the world and the impact this is having on people. According to singer Alex Veale, the lyrics refer to the division in society and to people who take this as an excuse for doing and saying wrong things. The first two lines of the theme song were inspired by Donald Trump's inauguration as President of the United States . Veale was in the gym and all of the TVs were watching the ceremony. The two lines came to him spontaneously.

“The track holds up a mirror to society and addresses the people who attach themselves to negativity and hostility. You really have to change what you are doing! Anyone who always blames other people for everything should perhaps rethink themselves first. "

- Alex Veale

Another topic on the album is Brexit . On the Run, on the other hand, is about an escapist romance. Cut Your Chains was inspired by a musician friend who leads a gender neutral lifestyle. According to Veale, it's about being free and doing your own thing.

reception

For Lothar Gerber from the German magazine Metal Hammer , Tax the Heat "enriches the roster of their label with their charming songs" and made comparisons to the White Stripes or the Rival Sons . Titles like All That Medicine would be “really danceable” and have “infectious rhythms”, for which Gerber awarded five out of seven points. Philipp Gravenhorst from the online magazine Metal.de highlighted the “high number of hits” and the “ quartet's feel for good melodies ”. The album offers “lots of nice songs to hum along” and “more than deserves their place in the car”. Gravenhorst awarded eight out of ten points. For Holger Stratmann from the German magazine Rock Hard "it speaks for the record that the concentration, the density and the tempo are kept high and also skillfully varied". However, the songs were "not so extraordinary that you have to call Tax the Heat the next rock sensation". Stratmann awarded 6.5 out of ten points.
