Charles-Alexis Chauvet
Charles-Alexis Chauvet (born July 7, 1837 in Marines , † January 28, 1871 in Argentan ) was a French organist and composer .
Life
Chauvet was born in Marines in the Val-d'Oise department in 1837 . He studied under François Benoist and Ambroise Thomas at the Paris Conservatory , where he received first prize in the organ subject in 1860 . In 1860 he became the organist of Saint-Thomas-d'Aquin (Paris) , then of Saint-Bernard de la Chapelle and the Église Saint-Merri (Paris) . In 1868 he became titular organist of La Trinité (Paris) , where he stayed until his death (respiratory disease) at the age of 33 in 1871. He was succeeded by Alexandre Guilmant .
