Charles-François-Prosper Guérin
Charles-François-Prosper Guérin (born February 21, 1875 in Sens , † March 19, 1939 in Paris ) was a French painter of Fauvism .
Life
Charles-François-Prosper Guérin, son of the painter Jean Michel Prosper Guérin (1838–1921), studied under Théodore Chassériau and Gustave Moreau at the École des Beaux-Arts in Paris . Guérin was initially influenced by Impressionist painters like Pierre-Auguste Renoir and Claude Monet before turning to Fauvism . He made his debut at the Salon des Artistes Français in 1896, and since 1903 he has exhibited at the Salon d'Automne . He also showed his pictures in the Salon des Indépendants from 1906 and later sent his works to exhibitions in Munich, Brussels and Amsterdam.
His work mainly includes portraits and still lifes. He also worked as a book illustrator and made decorations and costumes for the opera. At the end of his career he was appointed professor at the École des Beaux-Arts.
