Charles-Louis-Félix Franchot

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Charles-Louis-Félix Franchot (born September 16, 1809 in Saint-Venant , † July 31, 1881 in Ancerville (Meuse) ) was a French designer and inventor .

In 1836 he applied for a patent for his moderator lamp, which was similar to other lamps from the 1820s. He had the lamp built by the lamp manufacturer JAC (Rue du Faubourg-St. Martin 39) and Hadrot (Rue des Fossés-Montmartre). After the Levavasseur brothers had recreated the lamp, the judges ruled in 1845 that Franchot had not invented anything new on the lamp.

His lamp had to be wound up several times in one evening. If you missed this, the wick would char.

In 1854 he invented an engine similar to the Stirling engine.
