Georg Freiherr von Waldstätten , (born April 27, 1815 in Krems an der Donau , † October 15, 1881 in Eberstein , buried in Klagenfurt ), was an Austrian officer ( major general ) from the von Waldstätten family .

biography

The son of Johann Baptist Ignaz von Waldstätten became ensign in infantry regiment No. 3 Archduke Karl, lieutenant on May 21, 1839, then on April 16, 1842 first lieutenant in infantry regiment No. 29 Hartmann v. Hartenthal, on December 16, 1847 lieutenant captain in the Wimpffen Infantry Regiment No. 13, and captain on November 29, 1848 . As such, he took part in the wars in Hungary in 1849 . On February 18, 1855, he was promoted to Major and Wing Adjutant to His Majesty Emperor Franz Joseph I and on April 9, 1858, he became a lieutenant colonel .

Promoted from lieutenant colonel to colonel (June 9, 1859) and commander of Regiment No. 26, Grand Duke Michael of Russia, he took part in the campaigns in Italy in 1859 and - as a colonel brigadier - against Prussia in 1866 . He led a brigade in the VI. Corps under General Ramming and took part in the Battle of Nachod on June 27 and the Battle of Königgrätz on July 3 . In recognition of this, he advanced to major general (appointment August 21, 1866, rank of August 23, 1866), then retired on November 1, 1867.

Georg has been honored several times, including the Commander's Cross of the Royal Saxon Order of Albrecht and the Commander's Cross of the Grand Ducal Hessian Order of Ludwig .

family

He married on September 14, 1867 in Klagenfurt Wilhelmine (born October 6, 1843 in Klagenfurt; † January 15, 1928 ibid), daughter of Baron Adolf von Aichelburg and Emma von Litzelhofen .

The baron was buried with military honors in Klagenfurt. A battalion of the "King of the Belgians" infantry regiment and the Uhlans from the regiment there were his last escort .
