Charles Albert Waltner

Charles Waltner (born March 23 or 24, 1846 in Paris ; † June 15, 1925 there ) was a French engraver and etcher .

Life

Waltner was also a student of Jean-Léon Gérôme and Léon Bonnat , with whom he studied painting. It was only later that Henriquel-Dupont instructed him in the art of engraving and etching. After initially engraving a few smaller sheets of paper, he later turned mainly to the art of etching and soon achieved great abilities in the reproduction of paintings of the coloristic direction, especially Rembrandt's .

In 1868 Waltner won the Prix ​​de Rome which enabled him to stay in Rome. Waltner received many honors. In 1888 he became an honorary member of the Academy of Fine Arts Vienna . He was also appointed officer of the Legion of Honor in 1899. In 1908 Waltner was accepted into the Académie des Beaux-Arts .

Waltner was a member and professor at the Ecole nationale des Beaux-Arts and co-founder of the Société nationale des beaux-arts .
