Charles Albert Waltner
Charles Waltner (born March 23 or 24, 1846 in Paris ; † June 15, 1925 there ) was a French engraver and etcher .
Life
Waltner was also a student of Jean-Léon Gérôme and Léon Bonnat , with whom he studied painting. It was only later that Henriquel-Dupont instructed him in the art of engraving and etching. After initially engraving a few smaller sheets of paper, he later turned mainly to the art of etching and soon achieved great abilities in the reproduction of paintings of the coloristic direction, especially Rembrandt's .
In 1868 Waltner won the Prix de Rome which enabled him to stay in Rome. Waltner received many honors. In 1888 he became an honorary member of the Academy of Fine Arts Vienna . He was also appointed officer of the Legion of Honor in 1899. In 1908 Waltner was accepted into the Académie des Beaux-Arts .
Waltner was a member and professor at the Ecole nationale des Beaux-Arts and co-founder of the Société nationale des beaux-arts .
