Charles Anderson-Pelham, 1st Baron Yarborough (born Anderson ; February 3, 1749 , † September 22, 1823 ) was a British peer and politician .

Life

He came from the gentry of Lincolnshire and was the eldest son and heir of Francis Anderson († 1758), lord of Manby near Broughton in Lincolnshire, from his marriage to Eleanor Carter.

In 1763 he inherited the general heir of his great-uncle, the brother of his paternal grandmother, Charles Pelham, including his property, including the Brocklesby Park estate near Habrough in Lincolnshire. On this occasion he added his family name from "Anderson" to "Anderson-Pelham" and included his great-uncle's coat of arms in his. He also took over the honorary position of head of a par force hunt ( Master of the Brocklesby Hounds ) from his great-uncle .

In 1768 he was first elected to the British House of Commons . He was counted to the party of the Whigs and was from 1768 to 1774 MP for the Borough of Beverley in Yorkshire and from 1774 to 1794 Knight of the Shire for Lincolnshire. In 1771 he also received the office of High Sheriff of Lincolnshire and in 1777 he was accepted as a Fellow of the Royal Society .

On August 13, 1794 he was raised in the Peerage of Great Britain to Baron Yarborough , of Yarborough in the County of Lincoln, and thereby received a seat in the British House of Lords .

Marriage and offspring

On July 21, 1770 he married Sophia Aufrère (around 1753–1786), daughter and heiress of the House of Commons George René Aufrère from Chelsea (London) . With her he had two sons and five daughters:

  • Hon. Caroline Anderson-Pelham († 1812), ⚭ 1797 Robert Cary Elwes (1772-1852), lord of Roxby and Brigg in Lincolnshire, Great Billing in Northamptonshire and Egton in Yorkshire;
  • Hon. Maria Charlotte Anderson-Pelham († 1840), ⚭ 1804 William Tennant (1783–1835), squire of Little Aston Hall in Staffordshire;
  • Hon. Arabella Anderson-Pelham († 1871), ⚭ 1802 Thomas Fieschi Heneage (* 1771);
  • Hon. Georgiana Anne Anderson-Pelham († 1861), ⚭ 1811 Francis John Bateman Dashwood, squire of Well in Lincolnshire.

When he died in 1823, he was succeeded by his eldest son Charles, who was also made Earl of Yarborough in 1837 .
