Charles Anderson-Pelham, 1st Earl of Yarborough ( August 8, 1781 - September 5, 1846 ) was a British peer and politician .

Life

He was the eldest son of Charles Anderson-Pelham, 1st Baron Yarborough , from his marriage to Sophia Aufrère.

In 1803 he was first elected to the House of Commons . He belonged to the Whigs' party and was an MP for the Borough of Great Grimsby from 1803 to 1807 and for the County of Lincolnshire from 1807 to 1823 .

When his father died in 1823, he inherited his title of nobility as 2nd Baron Yarborough . He became a member of the House of Lords and resigned from the House of Commons. He also inherited his father's estates, particularly the Manby and Brocklesby estates in Lincolnshire. In 1825 he inherited from his wife's right the estates of her fifth cousin, Sir Leonard Worsley-Holmes, 9th Baronet (1787-1825), including the estate of Appuldurcombe House on the Isle of Wight .

As early as 1816 he had taken over the honorary position of leader of a par force hunt ( Master of the Brocklesby Hounds ) from his father . He was a co-founder of the Royal Yacht Squadron and was its first Commodore from 1825 . He was also a Freemason and was Grand Master of the Provincial Lodge of the Isle of Wight from 1826. In 1831 he became Lieutenant Colonel of the North Lincolnshire Regiment of Yeomanry and Vice-Admiral of Hampshire and the Isle of Wight

On January 30, 1837, he was given the hereditary titles of nobility Earl of Yarborough and Baron Worsley , of Apuldurcombe in the Isle of Wight.

Marriage and offspring

On August 11, 1806 he married Henrietta Anne Maria Charlotte Bridgeman Simpson († 1813), daughter of the Hon. John Bridgeman-Simpson, lord of Babworth Hall in Nottinghamshire. With her he had two sons and a daughter:

When he died in 1846, his elder son Charles inherited his title of nobility.
