Charles Brackeen

Charles Brackeen (* 13. March 1940 in Oklahoma ) is an American jazz - saxophonist (tenor and soprano saxophone).

Life

Brackeen played the violin and piano at the beginning of his musical career before switching to the saxophone. He commuted between California and the east coast before settling in New York City . In 1968 he made his debut record Rhythm X with Don Cherry , Charlie Haden and Ed Blackwell as sidemen; In 1974 he played another album under his own name. He also worked on recordings by the Jazz Composer's Orchestra , Don Cherry (1973), Leroy Jenkins (1975), the Wildflowers Loft Sessions (1976), Paul Motian (1977–1979) and Ronald Shannon Jacksons"Decoding Society" (1980/81) with, but made no further recordings until 1987. The album Worshipers Come Nigh was created in 1995 with his own quartet . Brackeen also worked with Dennis González , Ronnie Boykins and Ahmed Abdullah . Charles Brackeen was married to the pianist Joanne Brackeen .
