Charles Busch
Charles Busch (born August 23, 1954 ) is an American actor and author . Busch is known for his drag character Mary Dale .
After finishing school, Busch became an actor and writer of plays. Early in his professional career he wrote plays that celebrated the classic film genre and appeared as an actor in these own plays. These plays included: Vampire Lesbians of Sodom (1984), Psycho Beach Party (1987), The Lady in Question (1989), and Red Scare on Sunset (1991). Less known are his plays Theodora , She-Bitch of Byzantium (1984), Sleeping Beauty or Coma (1984) and Pardon My Inquisition, or Kiss the Blood Off My Castanets (1996).
Busch's success in his own works led to his 1993 performance of the revival of Jean Genet's The Maids . In 1994, Busch played the male role in his comedy You Should Be So Lucky . Other works in the 1990s were his autobiographical show Flipping My Wig in 1996 and the melodrama Queen Amarantha in 1997. His play Die, Mommie, Die! was played in Los Angeles.
In the 1990s, Busch appeared in several films: Addams Family Values (1993), $ 2 million tip (1994), and Trouble on the Corner (1996). Busch appeared twice in films that he himself had written as a writer: Psycho Beach Party (2000 with Lauren Ambrose as an actress) and Die, Mommie, Die! , for which he received the Sundance Special Performance Award .
In 2000, Busch's play The Tale of the Allergist's Wife was performed on Broadway in New York City . The play was nominated for a Tony Award in 2001. The actors Valerie Harper and Richard Kind played the main roles in this play . Since 2000, Busch has appeared annually in New York City with his 1984 Christmas play Times Square Angel . In 2003 there was a revival of his play Shanghai Moon, written in 1999 . He was also busy with three Auntie Mame productions. Busch is currently in New York City in the play about Laura Keene ; a 19th century actress who starred in the then play Our American Cousin at the Ford 'Theater , where Abraham Lincoln was murdered.
On television, Busch played the role of Peg Barlow on One Life to Live . In his best-known television role, Busch was seen in the series Oz - Hell Behind Bars as Nat Ginzburg .
Busch is also the author of the 1995 novel Whores of Lost Atlantis .
