Christoph Porsch

Christoph Porsch (born February 16, 1652 in Elbing , † January 17, 1713 in Elbing) was a German Evangelical Lutheran theologian and spiritual poet .

Life

Porsch attended the grammar school in his hometown and in 1670 the academic grammar school in Thorn . In 1672 he was cantor in Breslau . After a stay in Danzig in 1673 , he attended the University of Wittenberg on May 7, 1674 and then studied at the University of Leipzig . In 1677 he became pastor in Trunz , from 1682 in Zeyer , returned in 1688 to the Dreikönigskirche in his hometown and from 1695 worked as a pastor at St. Marienkirche.

Porsch published a hymn book in Elbing in 1702 under the title Spiritual Soul Music . From himself it contains the songs My Jesus come, I am ready , Now God's judgments watch over and O God rich in mercy . In addition, there are 21 hymns by him in the Marienburg hymn book (1713).

It is often claimed that he was a member of the German-minded cooperative as “Der Wohlbewahrende” , but there are doubts about this.
