Charles Castronovo

Charles Castronovo (born June 19, 1975 in Queens , New York ) is an American opera singer ( tenor ).

Life

Castronovo, the son of Sicilian and Ecuadorian parents, was born in New York and grew up in California. He graduated from California State University and began his career at the Los Angeles Opera . Because of his talent, he then took part in the Lindermann program to promote young artists at the New York Metropolitan Opera and made his debut as Beppo in the opera Pagliacci on the opening evening of the 1999/2000 season. In the following years, his repertoire included roles as Tamino ( Die Zauberflöte ), Don Ottavio ( Don Giovanni ), Alfredo ( La traviata ), Rodolfo ( La Bohème ), Nemorino ( L'elisir d'amore ), Il Duca di Mantova ( Rigoletto ), Ruggero ( La rondine ) and others.

In the 2003/2004 season he sang in houses such as the Royal Opera House in London (September 2004), the Vienna and Berlin State Opera , the Paris Opera , the Teatro Real in Madrid, the Théâtre Royal de la Monnaie in Brussels, the Teatro Carlo Felice in Genoa and at the Salzburg Festival as Belmonte in Die Entführung aus dem Serail (August 2006). He appeared at the Bavarian State Opera in the role of Gennaro in Lucrezia Borgia (2011) and made his debut in the 2012/2013 season in Amsterdam at a concert performance of the opera Les pêcheurs de perles . As a soloist he has performed with the Chicago Symphony Orchestra and the New York Philharmonic on various stages in Sweden, Denmark, China, Japan and Russia.
