Charles Foix (born February 1, 1882 in Salies-de-Béarn , † March 22, 1927 in Paris ) was a French internist and neurologist .

Life

Charles Foix was the son of a doctor and trained at the Collège d ' Orthez . He studied medicine at the University of Paris and was taught by Pierre Marie at the Hôpital de la Salpêtrière . In 1911 he received his doctorate in Paris and from 1912 to 1914 he was head of Pierre Marie's laboratory at the Salpêtrière. In 1921 he worked in a tuberculosis ward in Bicêtre . From 1923 he worked at the Ivry-sur-Seine hospital, which is now named after him . He was considered a gifted academic teacher and excellent clinician. His scientific contribution to neurology included the description of vascular syndromes, i.e. the connection between arterial occlusions and the symptoms caused by them. He published writings on the anatomy and vascular supply of the brain , partly together with Ion Niculescu (1895–1957). He also researched and published on the pathological changes in Parkinson's disease . He died at the age of only 45.

The Foix-Alajouanine syndrome , Foix-Chavany-Marie syndrome and Marie-Foix-Alajouanine syndrome are named after Charles Foix .
