Charles François Laurent (born November 12, 1856 in Paris , † 1939 ) was a French diplomat .

Life

Charles François Laurent was married to Sophie de Bénazé. He attended the Lycée Louis-le-Grand and the École polytechnique . In 1877 he became a non-commissioned officer at the artillery school . In 1878 he was employed in the administration. From 1886 to 1888 he was employed in Tonkin . In 1893 he was the office manager of Finance Minister Paul Peytral . In 1898 he was in charge of public accounting. In 1907 the office of chairman of the Cour des comptes was created, which Laurent held. In 1908 he advised the government of the Turkish sultan Abdülhamid II on questions of the state budget . In 1910 he was managing director of the Compagnie universelle du canal maritime de Suez and the railway company Compagnie du chemin de fer de Paris à Orléans . From 1911 he was president of the Banque des pays du Nord . Since its establishment on October 10, 1919, he has also headed Crédit national, a state bank that was founded for German reparations after the First World War .
