Charles Gmelin
Charles Henry Stuart Gmelin (born May 28, 1872 in Krishnanagar , India , † October 12, 1950 in Oxford , Oxfordshire ) was a British athlete who was third in the 400-meter run at the Olympic Games in Athens in 1896 (55.6 s) - behind the two US Americans Thomas Burke and Herbert Jamison . In the 100-meter run , he was eliminated in the third heat.
Charles Gmelin was born in India to a Christian missionary . He came to England as a school age and was educated in the best schools in Oxford. He later became director of the Freshfields School in Oxford. Gmelin played football and cricket for Oxfordshire .
