Charles H. Jacoby, Jr. (born June 19, 1957 in Detroit , Michigan ) is a former general in the United States Army . Between August 2011 and December 2014, he was the fifth in command of the United States Northern Command and commander of the North American Aerospace Defense Command (NORAD). Jacoby joined the US armed forces in 1978 and completed his officer and general staff training. He completed a study of Historical Sciences at the University of Michigan with the Master from.

Jacoby took up his post as the commander of NORAD on August 3, 2011 and is the first non-pilot to command the US and Canada air surveillance center . Prior to that, he was Director for Strategic Plans and Policy at the Joint Chiefs of Staff .

On December 5, 2014, Jacoby handed over command of USNORTHCOM and NORAD to Admiral William E. Gortney and retired.
