Victor Eugene Renuart junior (* 26. November 1949 ) is a retired General of the US Air Force and was dated 23 March 2007 to May 2010 the commander of the US Northern Command (NORTHCOM), which is the competent Unified Combatant Command of the US Armed Forces for North America is supported in home defense at all federal levels, as well as military and civil authorities. Traditionally, the commander of NORTHCOM is also the commander of North American Aerospace Defense Command (NORAD), which is a joint facility of the United States and Canada that monitor space and from attack with intercontinental ballistic missiles to warn (ICBM). The headquarters of both commandos is Peterson Air Force Base in Colorado .

Military career

Renuart graduated from Indiana University in Bloomington in 1971 with a Bachelor of Science degree in manufacturing engineering and industrial management and served in the US Air Force. He was trained at the Officer Training School until 1972 and promoted to Second Lieutenant on January 12, 1972 . From January 1972 to March 1973, he completed pilot training at Laredo Air Force Base in Texas . From March 1973 to July 1976 he served as a flight instructor for the T-37 "Tweet" at Craig Air Force Base , Alabama . During this service he was promoted twice: on January 12, 1974 to First Lieutenant and on January 12, 1976 to Captain . In 1975 he graduated from Troy State University in Troy , Alabama, and received his Master of Arts degree in psychology. From July 1976 to September 1979 he taught as Assistant Professor of Aviation Studies at the University of Notre Dame in South Bend , Indiana , during which time he graduated from the Squadron Officer School in 1977 and from Air Command and Staff College on the Maxwell Air Force in 1979 Base in Alabama.

In September 1980 followed training and further education on the aircraft types AT-38 and A-10 "Thunderbolt II" at Holloman Air Force Base in New Mexico and Davis-Monthan Air Force Base in Arizona . From May 1980 to June 1982 Renuart served as a fighter pilot and flight instructor for the A-10 in the 92nd Tactical Combat Squadron and in the 81st Tactical Combat Squadron at Royal Air Force Base Bentwaters in England . He then served from June 1982 to July 1984 as Operations Officer ( S-3 ) of the second division of the 81st Tactical Combat Squadron at Leipheim Air Base in western Germany . During this employment he was promoted to major on December 1, 1983 . He stayed in Germany for another year and served from July 1984 to November 1985 as Operations Officer and until September 1986 as Executive Officer of the Inspector General at the headquarters of the US Air Forces in Europe (USAFE) at Ramstein Air Base .

After Renuart returned to the United States , he served as Chief Squadron Inspector of the 23rd Tactical Combat Squadron from September 1986 to July 1991 and later as Operations Officer and Commander of the 76th Tactical Combat Squadron at England Air Force Base during Desert Shield / Storm Operations used in Louisiana . In this role he was promoted to Lieutenant Colonel on May 1, 1987 . From July 1991 to July 1992, he graduated from the US Army War College at Carlisle Barracks , Pennsylvania and served until March 1993 as the Director of Human Resources in the office of the Deputy Chief of Staff for Personnel at the US Air Forces in Europe headquarters on Ramstein AB; Renuart was promoted to Colonel on November 1, 1992 during this time . He then took over a post at NATO from March 1993 to October 1994 , where he commanded the headquarters supply group of the Allied Air Forces Central Europe , also in Ramstein . He was then until June 1995 executive officer of the assistant chief of staff for operations and US senior representative with the Allied Air Forces Central Europe . During this time he was director of the planning department of the NATO Combined Air Operations Center (formerly 5th Tactical Allied Air Force) in Vicenza , Italy , from November 1994 to May 1995 , during Operation Deny Flight , which was supposed to enforce the no-fly zone over Bosnia and Herzegovina .

After these NATO assignments, he served from June 1995 to April 1996 as Assistant Director for Operations at the US Air Force Headquarters in Europe and from April 1996 to June 1998 took command of the 52nd US Combat Squadron at Spangdahlem Air Base in Germany and was promoted to Brigadier General in this role on August 1, 1997 . Also in 1997 he completed the Senior Officers for National Security Program at Johns Hopkins University in Baltimore , Maryland . In July 1998, Renuart returned to the United States and took command of the 347th US Squadron at Moody Air Force Base in Georgia by March 2000 . On August 1, 2000, he was promoted to major general and in April of the same year had the post of commander of the Joint Task Force Southwest Asia and the command of the 9th Air and Space Expeditionary Task Force-Southwest Asia , the US Central Command in Riyadh , Taken over Saudi Arabia, only to sell it again in May 2001. From June 2001 through November 2003, Renuart served as director of operations (J-3) for US Central Command at MacDill Air Force Base , Florida . In February 2007, Gates nominated Renuart as the new commander of the US Northern Command and the North American Aerospace Defense Command (NORAD).
