Lori J. Robinson
Lori J. Robinson (* 1959 ) is a former general in the United States Air Force (USAF). She was on 13 May 2016 to 24 May 2018 to the commander in chief of the United States Northern Command (USNORTHCOM), a part contending powerful cross-regional command of the armed forces of the United States based on the Peterson Air Force Base , Colorado Springs . In personal union, she also commands the North American Aerospace Defense Command (NORAD) there.
She previously served as Commander of the Pacific Air Forces (PACAF), Air Component Commander in the United States Pacific Command (USPACOM) and Executive Director of the Pacific Air Combat Operations Staff (PACOPS) from October 2014 .
Robinson was the first female officer to head one of the nine cross-armed regional and functional commands of the US armed forces.
Education and career
Lori Robinson graduated from the University of New Hampshire with a bachelor's degree in English in 1981 and began serving with the Air Force the following year after completing a Reserve Officer Training Corps program . Her further education includes Masters degrees in Education Leadership and Management from Troy University (1992) and in National Security and Strategic Studies from Naval War College (1995).
Service in the rank of general

As of May 2007, Robinson commanded the 552nd Air Control Wing at Tinker Air Force Base , Oklahoma , with the rank of Colonel , and was promoted to Brigadier General in that position in July 2008 . Between September 2008 and October 2010, she served as Deputy Director for Force Application and Support , Directorate of Force Structure, Resources and Assessment at the United General Staff of the US Forces in Washington, DC It was there that she joined the staff until June 2012 as Director of Legislative Liaison from the Secretary of the Air Force , where she was promoted to major general in May 2011 .
After nearly three quarters of a year as deputy commander of the US Air Forces in the United States Central Command , she was promoted to lieutenant general and the position of deputy commander of the Air Combat Command at Langley Air Force Base , Virginia , in late May 2013 .
On October 16, 2014, Robinson took over command of the PACAF from Herbert Carlisle , who in turn moved to the top of the Air Combat Command.
On March 18, 2016, US Secretary of Defense Ashton Carter announced during a press conference that President Barack Obama would propose Robinson to the Senate to succeed Admiral William Gortney as Commander-in-Chief of USNORTHCOM and NORAD. The official nomination took place a good four weeks later, on April 15, the handover of control after confirmation by the Senate then on May 13 at Peterson Air Force Base.
Robinson was the second female general in the service of the USAF after Janet Wolfenbarger , who commanded Air Force Materiel Command between 2012 and 2015 , and is the first female officer to head one of the US armed forces’s nine inter-armed regional and functional commands.

Private
Lori Robinson is married to David A. Robinson , a retired Major General in the US Air Force. Her stepdaughter Taryn Ashley Robinson, also in the service of the USAF, died in January 2006 at the age of 22; She had initially survived the crash of her plane during a training flight near the Texan city of San Antonio in September 2005, in which her flight instructor was killed, initially seriously injured, but eventually succumbed to her injuries.
