United States Secretary of the Air Force
The Secretary of the Air Force ( SECAF or SAF / OS ) is the civilian leader (dt. About Secretary of State ) of the US Department of the Air Force . Barbara M. Barrett has been the 25th Secretary of the Air Force since October 18, 2019 .
Organization and mandate
The SECAF reports directly to the US Secretary of Defense and is responsible for the administrative and technical "day-to-day business" of the United States Air Force . The governing body of the SECAF consists of his deputy ( Under Secretary dt. Undersecretary of State ), the Assistant Secretaries (assistant-secretaries of state), the General Counsel (Chief Legal Advisor, or counsel ), the Inspector General ( Inspector General ), the Air Reserve Forces Policy Committee (Air Force Reserve Committee) and other legally established offices and services of SECAF.
The Secretary of the Air Force is appointed by the President of the United States and must be approved by the Senate .
