John Wesley Shipp
John Wesley Shipp (born January 22, 1955 in Norfolk, Virginia ) is an American actor .
Career
John Wesley Shipp studied acting in New York City to become an actor. He also took part in some auditions and got the role of Kelly Nelson in the soap Springfield Story in 1980 . From 1985 to 1986 he was seen as Doug Cummings in the drama series As The World Turns, which has been running since 1956 .
In 1987 he received a Daytime Emmy Award . In the following years he played in Santa Barbara (1987) and One Life to Live (1988). One of his most successful roles, Barry Allen alias Flash , he finally played from 1990 to 1991 in the series Flash - The Red Lightning . In 1990 he also played Bastian Bux's father in The Neverending Story II - In Search of Fantasias .
This was followed by many guest appearances in various series such as NYPD Blue (1994), Sisters (1994-1995) or Strangers (1996). He took on a longer running role as the father of the main character in Dawson's Creek , until his character died after 83 episodes in the fifth season.
After Dawson's Creek he took on a few parts in television films and TV series. In 2005 he took on a longer-term role in the series Palmetto Pointe , in which he can be seen together with his former Dawson's Creek colleague Nina Repeta .
Since 2014 he has appeared in The CW television series The Flash . At first he was just Barry Allen's father, Henry Allen , who was in jail for the alleged murder of his wife, later he took on the role of Jay Garrick , a Flash from Another Earth.
