Deborah Lee James (* 25. November 1958 ) was from December 2013 to January 2017 as United States Secretary of the Air Force , the administrative head of the Air Force of the United States . She was the second woman in this position and was temporarily replaced by Lisa Disbrow in the Trump administration .

Life

Deborah Lee James studied at Duke University , where she earned a Bachelor of Arts in Comparative Area Studies , after which she moved to the Columbia University School of International and Public Affairs and completed her training with a Master in International Affairs . She then worked from 1983 to 1993 in the US House of Representatives in the Armed Services Committee responsible for the armed forces, and from 1993 to 1998 on the staff of the Department of Defense .

James then moved to United Technologies , a technology manufacturer, as Vice President of International Operations and Marketing , from 2000 to 2001 at Business Executives for National Security , a non-profit organization that mainly works for the Pentagon. From 2002 to 2013 he worked at Science Applications International Corporation , finally as Senior Vice President .

From December 2013, James was Secretary of the Air Force and thus responsible for the 690,000 soldiers and civilian employees, including the United States Air Force and the Air National Guard, as well as a budget of 110 billion US dollars , with the change of government in 2017 and the end the Obama administration was reassigned her post.
