Michael Bruce Donley (born October 4, 1952 in Novato , California ) is an American politician and was United States Secretary of the Air Force in 1993 and from 2008 to 2013 .

biography

After attending school, he did his military service in the US Army from 1972 to 1975 and then studied international relations at the University of Southern California . There he obtained a Bachelor of Arts (BA International Relations) in 1977 and a Master of Arts (MA International Relations) in 1978 .

In 1979 he became assistant to Roger Jepsen , the then Republican US Senator for Iowa . He then served from 1981 to 1984 on the staff of the Senate Defense Committee ( United States Senate Committee on Armed Services ). After a subsequent work as director of defense programs at the National Security Council ( National Security Council (NSC) ) he was from 1988 to 1989 Deputy Executive Secretary of the NSC.

In 1989, he joined the United States Department of Defense and became Assistant to the Secretary of the Air Force ; as such, he was responsible for the financial management of the US Air Force . After the end of the term of US President George Bush and the resignation of Donald Rice , he served for the first time from January 20 to July 13, 1993 Acting US Secretary of the Air Force during the first few months of President Bill Clinton .

After his subsequent resignation from government service, he was initially a Senior Fellow of the Institute for Defense Analyzes from 1993 to 1996 . Between 1996 and 2005 he was Senior Vice President of Science Applications International Corporation (SAIC), a defense company with total assets of 8.94 billion US dollars and based in San Diego .

In 2005 he returned to the US Department of Defense, where he was director of administration and management. On June 21, 2008 Michael B. Donley was again Acting Secretary of State for the Air Force and held that office until June 21, 2013.
