Charles L. Fleischmann

Charles Louis Fleischmann (born November 3, 1835 in Jägerndorf , Austrian Silesia , † December 10, 1897 ) was an Austrian-American entrepreneur of Jewish descent.

Career

Fleischmann attended schools in Vienna and Prague . In 1866 he emigrated to the United States . There he founded the Fleischmann's Yeast company with his brother Maximilian and another business partner. They produced and sold compressed yeast and spirits . In the following years, the Fleischmann Yeast Company rose to become the world's leading yeast producer and the second largest vinegar producer.

In addition, Fleischmann developed numerous mechanical patents for the yeast production machines. He also helped found the Market National Bank , of which he was president from 1887 until his death in 1897. He was buried in Spring Grove Cemetery . His son Julius Fleischmann was the mayor of Cincinnati .
