Charles Edward Merriam

Charles Edward Merriam (born November 15, 1874 in Hopkinton , Iowa ; † January 8, 1953 in Rockville , Maryland ) was a professor of political science at the University of Chicago and co-founder of the - strictly individualistic - behaviorist research approach, also called behavioralism . He is also counted as part of the so-called Chicago School .

In 1932 Merriam was elected to the American Academy of Arts and Sciences and in 1935 to the American Philosophical Society . He was an advisor to the American Presidents Herbert Hoover and Franklin D. Roosevelt .
