Charles Mills

Charles Mills (born July 29, 1788 in Greenwich ; died October 9, 1826 in Southampton ) was an English historian.

Mills, an amateur historian, wrote a number of works on the Crusades , which enjoyed some popularity at the time thanks to the romantic enthusiasm for the Middle Ages that particularly the historical novels of Walter Scott had sparked. His two-volume The History of the Crusades reached four editions in eight years and served Scott himself as a source for some details in later works such as The Talisman . A few months before his death he was elected Knight of Honor of the Order of Malta in recognition of his services .
