The Landesbergen barrage is a barrage on the Weser northwest of the village of Landesbergen in the Nienburg / Weser district . It consists of a weir and a hydroelectric power station . To the west of the barrage, there is the Wellier Loop nature reserve / Landesbergen barrage, which is part of an oxbow lake . Immediately to the east is the Landesbergen lock in a short lock channel.

Weir

The Landesbergen barrage at water kilometer 252 was built in the 1950s as one of several barrages on the Central Weser in order to keep the water level as constant as possible and to make the waterway passable for large ships. The weir was built between 1958 and 1960 and consists of two 40 m wide fields. The water level is 5.50 m. The weir is operated by the Verden Waterways and Shipping Office , outskirts of Nienburg. In November 1960 it was put into operation as the last of the 7 Mittelweser barrages. The central Weser from Minden to Bremen was thus completely canalized.

Hydroelectric power plant

At the same time, a run-of-river power plant was built, which has been in operation since 1960. The hydropower plant was originally operated by the PreußenElektra company, which later became part of E.ON Wasserkraft GmbH. Through an exchange of shares with the Norwegian energy company Statkraft , the latter has been the owner and operator of the power plant since January 1, 2009. The power plant with its three Kaplan turbines , whose spiral casings are designed in a siphon design, has a capacity of 7.2 MW and delivers an average of 36 GWh of electricity per year, which corresponds to an average output of 4.1 MW. The power plant in Landesbergen is monitored from a central control room, which is located in the Erzhausen pumped storage plant .
