The Schlüsselburg barrage is a dam on the Mittelweser with an associated hydroelectric power plant and is located in the East Westphalian town of Petershagen in the Minden-Lübbecke district in North Rhine-Westphalia .

history

The Schluesselburg barrage at water kilometers 236.6 was built in the 1950s as one of several barrages on the Mittelweser in order to keep the water level as constant as possible and to make the waterway passable for large ships. The weir was built in 1956 and consists of two 40 m wide fields. The water level is 4.50 m. The weir is operated by the Verden Waterways and Shipping Office .

power plant

At the same time, a run-of-river power plant was built, which has been in operation since 1956. The power plant with its three Kaplan turbines has a capacity of 5.0  MW and delivers an average of 28 GWh of electricity per year, which corresponds to an average output of 3.2 MW. The power plant in Schlüsselburg is monitored from a central control room, which is located in the Erzhausen pumped storage plant .

The hydropower plant was originally operated by the PreußenElektra company, which later became part of the EON group. Through an exchange of shares with the Norwegian energy company Statkraft , the latter has been the owner and operator of the power plant since January 1, 2009.
