Charles Naylor (politician)
Charles Naylor (born October 6, 1806 in Philadelphia County , Pennsylvania , † December 24, 1872 in Philadelphia , Pennsylvania) was an American politician . Between 1837 and 1841 he represented the state of Pennsylvania in the US House of Representatives .
Career
Charles Naylor attended public schools in his home country. After a subsequent law degree and his admission as a lawyer in 1828, he began to work in Philadelphia in this profession. In this city he also held some local offices. Politically, he joined the Whig Party , founded in the mid-1830s .
After the death of the Congressman Francis Jacob Harper , Naylor was elected to the House of Representatives in Washington, DC in the due by-election in the third constituency of Pennsylvania , where he took up his new mandate on June 29, 1837. After being re-elected, he could remain in Congress until March 3, 1841 . In 1840 he renounced another candidacy.
After his time in the US House of Representatives, Charles Naylor practiced as a lawyer again. During the Mexican-American War he set up a volunteer unit from Philadelphia, the Philadelphia Rangers , which he commanded as a captain. After the war he lived in Pittsburgh for some time , where he also worked as a lawyer. He later returned to Philadelphia, where he died on December 24, 1872.
