Charles George Noel, 2nd Earl of Gainsborough ( September 5, 1818 , † August 13, 1881 ) was a British politician of the Whigs and later the Liberal Party and nobleman , who was a member of the House of Commons between 1840 and 1841 and 1866 Inherited title as Earl of Gainsborough . This made him a member of the House of Lords , to which he belonged until his death in 1881.

Life

Noel was the eldest son of Charles Noel, 1st Earl of Gainsborough and his wife Elizabeth Gray, daughter of George Gray, 1st Baronet and his wife Mary Whitbread.

On January 28, 1840 Noel was a candidate of the Whigs member of the House of Commons and represented in this until June 29, 1841 the constituency of Rutlandshire . In 1848 he succeeded Richard Lucas as High Sheriff of Rutland , but shortly thereafter gave this office to John Thomas Springthorpe.

After his father's death on June 10, 1866, he inherited the title of 2nd Earl of Gainsborough, in the County of Lincoln and the associated subordinate title of 2nd Viscount Campden, of Campden in the County of Gloucester , 4. Noel married Ida Harriet Augusta Hay on November 1, 1841, daughter of William Hay, 18th Earl of Erroll and Elizabeth FitzClarence . This marriage resulted in three daughters and two sons, including Charles William Francis Noel , who inherited the title of 3rd Earl of Gainsborough after the death of his father. The daughters were Edith Horatia Emma Frances Noel, Blanche Elizabeth Mary Annunciata Noel and Constance Julia Eleanor Georgiana Noel, who was married to Henry Bellingham, 4th Baronet, who was a member of the House of Commons between 1880 and 1885 and a Lord Lieutenant from 1911 to 1921 Louth was.
