Charles E. Piguet (born April 17, 1859 in Geneva , † September 24, 1918 in Eaux-Vives ) was a Swiss educator who worked in Montenegro and Switzerland .

activity

From 1881 to 1901 Piguet lived in what was then the Montenegrin capital, Cetinje . Here he was the educator of King Nikolas' sons - Danilo , Mirko and Peter. In 1916, Montenegro set up a consular post in Geneva . Piguet was considered for the post of honorary consul. He held this post until his death, after which the post was vacant; a replacement was also obsolete, since Montenegro became part of the Kingdom of Serbs, Croats and Slovenes.

Piguet also worked as a translator and translated Gordana by the Serbian writer Laza Kostić into French.

Honors

In 1894 Piguet received the Commander's Cross of the Order of the Crown of Italy from the Italian king . In 1893 he was accepted as an officer in the French Legion of Honor .

literature

Piguet is mentioned in numerous books by travelers who stopped in Cetinje, for example in Edith Durham's work “Twenty Years Of Balkan Tangle” and in the book “Through Montenegro with Skis” by the Norwegian Henrik Angell . The Swiss painter William Ritter mentions Piguet in his travelogue. Piguet is also mentioned in Bilješke jednog pisca by Simo Matavulj .
